Most of what
matters happens
in rooms you
are not in.

The studio

Maximillian Group works in those rooms, and takes a position in what comes out of them.

We are not a fund and we are not a consultancy. We put our own money into a small number of consumer companies, we build the brand and the growth engine around them, and we make the introductions that decide whether they get where they are going. Then we stay in, because the introduction is the beginning of the work and not the end of it.

Every engagement is written down before it starts. What we do, what it is worth, and what our share of it is. That is not administrative housekeeping. It is the difference between a business and a group chat.

Founder

Max DiFillippo, founder and managing partner.

Max built the network the studio runs on in person, over years, across Boston, New York and Los Angeles. It was not bought, it is not a list, and it is not for sale. What it is good for is getting a real product into the hands of someone who can decide something about it.

Practice

What the studio actually does.

Investments
We put our own capital into early consumer companies, and we stay involved after the wire. A cheque with no work behind it is not what we are for.
Brand incubation
Businesses with real history and no modern brand are the studio's favorite problem. We find the equity already sitting in a name, assemble the creative and operating talent around it, and build the brand it should already have had.
Growth & partnerships
Marketing, distribution, and the partner deals that open a channel rather than decorate one. Delivered through the studio's own operating partners, not outsourced and forgotten.
Advisory
Deal structure, positioning and terms. What the agreement should say, and what it should say before anyone has done any work.
Introductions
A small number, made deliberately, to people who have asked to see things. We vet everything we pass on, which is the only reason it gets opened.
Companies we build
When an opportunity has no owner, the studio starts the company itself and operates it.
Network

A network is only worth what it is protected from.

Access does not scale, and anyone who tells you theirs does has already spent it. The studio's network is finite by design. It is not published, not searchable, and not available to browse. It is used sparingly, on things we have already checked, one introduction at a time.

Both ways

The studio works in two directions.

If you are building something

You have the company. You need the room.

You have a product that holds up and no way to get it in front of the person who could change its trajectory. We take a position, we make sure the thing is actually ready to be seen, and then we put it in front of someone who agreed in advance to look.

If you already have the room

You have the name. You need the business.

Your name opens a conversation that you have no interest in running. We build the venture behind it, negotiate the terms, hold the partner to them, and operate the thing so that your likeness is represented the way you would represent it yourself.

Inquiry

We are not open for general introductions. If you have something specific, put it in writing.
